What is Ingress?

Life seems "normal" but your world is being infiltrated. A mysterious energy has been unlocked by scientists in Europe and is spreading around the world. The origin and purpose of this force is unknown, but some researches believe it is influencing the way we think. We must control it, or it will control us.

Tell Me More About The Game Concept
Through the game you will discover hidden gems right in your own neighborhood you never knew existed, and it will encourage you to want to visit and explore other neighborhoods (and even other cities and perhaps countries!) you may never have ventured before. Ingress is built around the concept that points of interest throughout the world--including sculpture, murals, information kiosks and plaques, places of worship, libraries, and unique businesses--possess an inexplicable power to draw humans to them. The lore behind the game concept is that there is an alien force, known as The Shapers, which influences the creation or development of these areas of interest. But do these aliens bring their influence to our world for our benefit? Or is there some nefarious purpose in their efforts?

The real magic of The Seattle Resistance, and truly of Ingress at large, is that it is much more than just a game. It is an opportunity to meet and collaborate with other people in your area. It is an invitation to explore art and points of interest in your city and around the world, and even an opportunity to be inspired to create art of your own! And yes, we mean around the world. Ingress is global, and agents even have opportunities to collaborate with players in other countries--the UK, India, Russia, Spain, Italy...agents are everywhere.

Many agents remark on the amazing social aspects of Ingress, and the friendships they now enjoy thanks to Ingress. For those of age, "Beergressing" is a popular hobby, meeting for food and drink, heading out to fight the good fight as a team, and rounding it out with--what else?--more delicious food and libations. All in the name of protecting the human race? Absolutely!

We are the Resistance. Why should you join us?
Enlightened Agents will try to tell you that the Resistance are ignorant or fearful of change. I assure you this is not the case. The Resistance simply believe we shouldn’t allow an unknown alien influence to run rampant in our world until we have more insight into what the effects (or consequences) may be. We believe in reasoned, scientific investigation of the Shapers, XM, and the portals through which it seeps into our world. We demand greater transparency and understanding before we will aid any outside force to manipulate our humanity.

In short, we will not rush forward blindly. We want to be informed before we will invite or facilitate any unexplained influence into our world.

For many Resistance Agents, we believe perhaps the Enlightened have been ‘shaped’--that is, have unwittingly fallen under the influence of eXotic Matter at the hands of the believed aliens, the Shapers. The Enlightened are potentially victims of some nefarious force--there is no way to know until we are better able to grasp the impact of XM influence in our world. In the meantime, we devote our efforts to both protecting the rest of humanity from this unexplained external manipulation, as well try and help our Enlightened brothers and sisters to see what we know to be true: humans desire to be in control of their own destiny. It is part of how we define our humanity. We will fight to retain this autonomy of will, of will, of purpose, of choice. We value our freedom to live our lives as we wish, not as they might manipulate us to their own unexplained ends.
